I saw this crafty silk-dyed egg project last year and thought, "Well, that looks cool, but I can't possibly do that. I'd be kicked out of Slacker Parents Local 234." This year, I looked at it again and thought, "Still looks cool and it might actually be easier than removing 7 colors of Easter egg dye from the boys, my kitchen table and our clothes. So we did it.
You basically wrap an egg in a square of 100% silk (hello, thrift store), colorful side in towards the egg, secure it tightly with a twist tie, wrap it in a square of white cotton (I cut up an old pillow case), boil for 20 minutes, cool and voila!
I used a tie and 2 different silk scarves. Next year I'll go for more variety now that we know how it works.
Oh, and don't tell anyone that I did something crafty, OK? I have a reputation to uphold, you know.
