Our hot water heater died several days ago. The costs have been adding up:
Monthly Y membership for showering (heaven forbid we actually use the Y to work out): $86
Large stock pots to carry stove warmed hot water to the bathtub: $45
Extra deoderant for when I'm too lazy to go to the Y or carry pots: $5
New hot water heater installed by a trained professional: $2,300
Having a super handy husband who can tell the "trained professional" to shove it & install the hot water heater himself: Priceless.
And he's hot. (Pun absolutely intended.)
